Geostroy will renovate a historic building in Dimitrovgrad
Geostroy will carry out the restoration and major repair of Chemist Cultural Centre and the surrounding green park area in the town of Dimitrovgrad. The building is one of the iconic urban landmarks, part of the immovable cultural heritage - 3rd March Square Ensemble. The centre was built in the mid-twentieth century and has not been repaired since then.
The project includes exterior and interior renovations while retaining the building’s authentic character. Complete replacement of the old decrepit heating system with new gas-based central heating is envisaged, as well as installation of fire-extinguishing, detection and alarm systems, and other appliances. The project scope also comprises general overhaul of the existing indoor cinema and its transformation into a state-of-the-art multipurpose hall for theatrical performances, concerts and conferences. Consideration is also given to people with disabilities by providing them with safe and convenient access to the premises in the centre.
The official opening event was attended by the Mayor of Dimitrovgrad Municipality Mr Ivo Dimov, representatives of the designers’ team and the project contractor Geostroy AD.
‘The building is really difficult to renovate because of its extremely poor condition. Our design team have put our hearts and souls into restoring it to its original design - a multifunctional venue for various cultural events. I am convinced that at the end of the project Dimitrovgrad will have a beautiful European multipurpose hall,’ said Arch. Stefka Ivanova, Head of the design team, during a special press conference to announce the commencement of construction works.
‘Geostroy has a proven track record in the restoration and reconstruction of such type of buildings. I firmly believe that after completing the renovation, Chemist Cultural Centre will become Dimitrovgrad’s new cultural heart offering a wider variety of exciting creative activities and artistic events,’ commented M.Eng. Tsvetoslav Petkov, Chief Engineer at Geostroy who is in charge of the project.
The time for completion of the works is 240 days.
