Official opening of a New Wastewater Treatment Plant executed by Geostroytechmin in Berkovitsa Municipality
On 8 September 2015, the new wastewater treatment plant for potable waters, Alpine water intake and reconstruction of the water supply system in Barzia village, Berkovitsa municipality was put into operation. The ceremonial ribbon was cut by Mrs. Dimitranka Kamenova - Mayor of Berkovitsa Municipality, Mrs. Ivelina Vassileva - Minister of Environment and Water, Mr. Rumen Porozhanov – Executive Director of State Fund Agriculture and Dipl.Eng. Vladimir Vutov – a leader’s representative of Consortium “Geostroytechmin”. The event was attended by Prime Minister Mr. Boyko Borissov, deputies to the National Assembly from the region and other official guests.
The project was implemented with the financial support of the State Fund Agriculture, Measure 321 “Basic services for the population and the economy in rural areas” under the Rural Development Programme 2007 – 2013. Its construction was executed by Consortium “Geostroytechmin” including Geostroy AD and Geotechmin OOD.
The building site is located in the village of Barzia and consists of a wastewater treatment plant for potable waters in Ravnishte upland, Alpine water intake with a sanitary protection zone around it and two water supply pipelines starting respectively from the alpine water intake and from the existing damming in Miteriza area to the existing water basin located near the wastewater treatment plant. The total length of the water supply system is about 10 km and is executed by using high-density polyethylene pipes with diameters of 90 mm and 160 mm.
The implementation of this project will improve the quality of drinking water and the water supply infrastructure for the residents of Berkovitsa municipality.
