The Executive Director of Geostroy AD - PhD Eng. Vladimir Vutov and the General Director of the National Railway Infrastructure Company - M.Eng. Krasimir Papukchiiski signed a contract for modernisation of railway sections in Plovdiv. The project will be executed by Geostroy – Lantania Consortium comprising one of the leading construction companies in Bulgaria Geostroy AD and the Spanish company Lantania SA. The project employer is the National Railway Infrastructure Company.
An official contract signing ceremony was held in the building of Plovdiv Municipality. The event was attended by the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Rossen Jeliazkov, the Mayor of Plovdiv Zdravko Georgiev, and several other prominent guests.
Under the project, the Consortium will modernise a rail track, overhead catenary, signalling and telecommunications systems in the railway sections Plovdiv-Krumovo and Plovdiv-Skutare, including the railway stations Plovdiv Wagon Yard, Krumovo, Skutare and Trakia Inspection Point.
The time for completion of the project is 35 months. The project scope includes: design, construction and assembly works for modernisation of a rail track and related facilities (including underpasses, overpasses and footbridges), overhead catenary, signalling and telecommunications systems in the railway sections Plovdiv-Krumovo and Plovdiv-Skutare, including the railway stations Plovdiv Wagon Yard, Krumovo, Skutare and Trakia Inspection Point. In the course of upgrading the signalling and telecommunication systems, the route relay interlocking systems in Skutare and Trakia railway stations will be replaced by computer-based interlocking systems with LED signals, axle counters and new railroad turnouts, as well as new main and backup power supply. The control of Trakia Inspection Point will be exercised from the computer-based interlocking system in Skutare station.
3 new road overpasses for pedestrian crossing will be built on two levels in order to comply with the needs and requirements of people with reduced mobility. Construction of noise reduction facilities is envisaged in the urban areas, as well as safety fences along the entire railway line and new drainage systems.
The modernisation of the railway sections is part of the project “Development of Plovdiv Railway Junction” and is co-financed under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
