WE BUILD, GAIN EXPERIENCE AND GET READY FOR THE NEW RDIP CHALLENGES
date: 20 October 2018
This motto outlined the presentation of M.Eng. Anastasia Stoimenova, Infrastructure and Logistics Manager in Geostroy AD, who represented the company at the Eighth National Conference organized by the Bulgarian Water Association and the Bulgarian Construction Chamber. The presentation started by illustrating important dates and numbers in the company’s history – its establishment in 2005 with five employees and continuous growth comprising more than 750 employees and over 100 completed projects. Geostroy carries out construction and assembly works at an average pace of ten projects per year, which the company strives to keep and exceed.
Two of the projects executed in 2018 were selected and presented at the conference:
- Zemlyane Metro Depot where Geostroy is the leader of Geometro Zemlyane Consortium, and
- Struma Motorway, Lot 3.3 Kresna – Sandanski where Geostroy is a partner in Struma – Lot 3.3 Consortium.
Both projects are financed by the Operational Programme Transport and Transport Infrastructure 2014 – 2020. The road section of Struma Motorway has been built in compliance with the contract conditions of FIDIC Yellow Book. Apart from the technical parameters of the constructions, some interesting facts were exposed like the number of metro trains to be delivered at Zemlyane Metro Depot (twenty, out of which eleven have already parked in the train shed) and the builder’s obligations to protect the natural habitats of wild species around Struma Motorway.
For the audience less aware of Geostroy’s profile, M.Eng. Stoimenova reverted back to the year 2015 – the tenth anniversary year, and pointed up meaningful ecological projects, thus referring to the environmental protection and life conditions theme, subject of the Operational Programme Environment (OPE).
Besides the two projects under OPE 2007-2013 – Regional Waste Management System Gabrovo & Tryavna and Kazanlak Transfer Station executed by Consortiums with Geostroy as a leader, special attention was drawn to a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Ellatzite Mine. The WWTP was built by Geostroy and designed on the basis of an innovative technology using the know-how of Mitsubishi Materials Techno Corporation, Japan. The project was financed by Ellatzite Med AD as a result of the long-term partnership between Geotechmin – the mother company and the R&D company from Japan.
The partnership continued with the development of the “Green Rust” pilot project implemented by Geostroy on the territory of Buhovo closed uranium treatment complex in the period 2014 - 2016. It was executed according to a Memorandum signed between Geotechmin OOD and MMTEC, Japan. This entirely innovative project for on-site treatment of heavy metal contaminated waters was highlighted as an illustration of Geostroy’s slogan “Hand in hand, we are building the future with innovations and experience”.
Another large-scale project executed by Geostroy was the construction of a new Primary Crushing Unit KET-3 on the territory of Ellatzite Mine. It was the first particularly meaningful project implemented by the company in its early years where construction works were carried out within the mine cup without interrupting mining operations. The project was presented as additional evidence relevant to the company’s long-standing experience in performing various and complicated tasks.
In addition to the so called “soft skills” (experience and innovations) in the company’s portfolio, special emphasis was laid on material resources – construction machines and equipment which enable the company teams to practically apply their substantial knowledge and expertise in order to meet new challenges.
In conclusion, M.Eng. Stoimenova emphasized that for Geostroy’s employees the company motto is not just a beautiful phrase, but also their genuine aspiration, and invited designers, construction companies and institutions to check it in practice by choosing Geostroy as their partner.
